What this template is for
Use it for real news: a new location, a new service, a partnership, a hire who matters to your customers, an award with a named giver. Local papers, trade magazines and industry newsletters still read press releases, and a clean one makes their job easier.
Write it so a reporter could print the first paragraph as it stands. Everything after it is detail they can cut.

How to fill it in
- Write the headline as the news itself, not as a slogan.
- Answer who, what, when, where and why in the first paragraph.
- Get the quote from the person named, and have them approve it.
- Check every figure against your records. Leave out any you cannot source.
- Send it as text in the body of an email, with the PDF attached for those who want it.
Questions
What counts as news?
Something that changed and matters to readers outside your company: a new place, a new service, a new partner. A sale or a new logo rarely does.
How long should a press release be?
One page is usual. A reporter decides from the headline and the first paragraph.
What is an embargo?
A request that the news is not published before a set date and time. Put "Embargoed until" with the date and time zone in place of "For immediate release".
What does ### mean?
It marks the end of the release. Reporters know that nothing below it is part of the story.
Use it in Supernatural
Supernatural: everything your business runs on, with Blue as your part-time admin. Word is one of its apps. In your workspace, you ask Blue for “a press release about our news”. Blue starts from this template, writes in what you give it, and leaves [brackets] where something is missing. Before it makes the document, Blue shows you which template it chose and what it will write. Nothing is made until you say yes.
